What we do

We offer free legal advice on certain areas of law to people who are not eligible for legal aid and cannot afford to pay.

Depending on the nature of your query we may be able to refer your case to other Centres within the University of Law Legal Advice Centre network.

The types of legal issues covered by ULLAC London:

  • All areas of family law including child contact disputes; divorce; initial advice on ancillary relief; parental responsibility; shared care; parenting agreements; pre-nuptial agreements and court applications.
  • Areas of Small Business law including Contract terms; Privacy; Shareholder entitlement; Data protection; Setting up a company; Restructuring; General Intellectual Property issues; Trademark & registered designs; General Patent queries; Partnership agreements and general partnership matters; Shareholder agreements and minority shareholder matters; Copyright; Directors’ duties, termination or disqualification
  • Referrals & information on other areas of law where possible.

What happens when you make an enquiry?

Firstly, we consider whether your enquiry fits the remit of our service. If it does, trained Clinic Assistants or ULLAC staff take details of your case by telephone. Please note that you will not receive advice at this point.

The information you provide is then shared with the supervising solicitor and volunteer lawyer who use it to decide whether we can help. We then confirm your appointment or offer other sources of help.

What happens during the advice session?

A group of students will be present during your appointment to observe the session and assist the volunteer lawyer. You will receive verbal advice about your case based on the information you have provided. Please note we are unable to consider documents or provide ongoing casework support.

How to access the service?

Please fill in our online enquiry form (below). We need this information to determine whether your query matches the remit of our service.

If you prefer to access our service by phone please leave a message on our 24-hour answerphone service with the following information:
