Our students join the University on an equal playing field – largely amongst a group of strangers – but throughout their time studying and socialising together, we see great friendships develop. Olasubomi Oke is currently studying the LLB Law at our Bloomsbury campus and wants to help people with her legal knowledge. We caught up with Olasubomi to see how ULaw is helping her towards her ambition of becoming a judge.

I chose to study at ULaw because they have practising lawyers as lecturers. Who would you rather learn from if not the people that are in the system and can keep you updated? At this University you breathe and eat law. As well as this, the student satisfaction is very high and this shows how helpful and committed the lecturers are. Also, I chose ULaw because it has a good reputation, like having gold in the TEF* and a high employability rate.
My ambition is to be a lawyer and make use of my knowledge to help people. I don’t yet know if I’d rather be a solicitor or a barrister, but I definitely want to eventually be a judge.
The friends I’ve made at ULaw have been really wonderful. They motivate me, help me to read and help to keep me on my feet. I have made so many new friends, but I have three close ones who are not just beautiful inside and out but are also brilliant and helpful. All four of us are different but at the same time very alike. They are just amazing and positive; I’m so glad I met them.
I have attended some of the employability events which are held by the ULaw Employability Service. It has made me realise that although I am not new to the world of work, there are still so many things I need to improve on. The fact that we have this opportunity available at a very early stage is really amazing and gives you enough time to prepare for the world of work. No one should have any reason for not getting a job after leaving ULaw.
I am involved in a few different groups at ULaw like the workshop WhatsApp, fresher’s WhatsApp and Snapchat groups. We support each other with anything from how student finance works to how to get the 18+ oyster photocard. I have made good friends and they have shaped my experience and time into something really amazing. We also get invitations to parties too, so they’re really fun group chats.
I joined the debating society with the encouragement of my friends. This is something I would not think of going to on a normal day, even if it was taking place in my living room. My time at ULaw has allowed me to meet people from different backgrounds and still find common ground in which we can communicate and work together, which is a great experience.
During my time at ULaw I intend to have gained a wide range of legal knowledge, researching skills, evaluation of current and relevant information, concise communication skills, confidence, good work experience on my CV, accompanied by excellent grades and many more skills that will be applicable to the world at large. Let’s not forget a fun filled experience with friends.
I’d advise all ULaw students to join societies, go to employability events, don’t miss classes, network and make friends.
