Postgraduate Entry Requirements

Each of our postgraduate courses has specific entry requirements. Here you can find a breakdown of the particulars, as well as access to useful documents that give you further information should you require it.

Law

UK Entry Requirements

To be eligible to take up your place on our LPC, you must comply with the requirements for commencing a Legal Practice Course (LPC) set out by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

Students must possess either a Qualifying Law Degree, usually at 2:2 or above, or a Common Professional Examination (CPE)/Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) or similar qualification, such as CILEX.

Your law degree must meet certain academic standards in order to qualify. This must include having adequately passed assessments in the seven Foundations of Legal Knowledge; Public Law, Obligations I (Contract), Obligations II (Tort), Criminal Law, Land Law, Equity & Trusts and Law of the European Union.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

  • An English Language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component. Please see 'Alternative English language qualifications' section below for alternatives to IELTS.

UK Entry Requirements

Students are required to possess an undergraduate degree in any subject at 2:2 or above or equivalent qualifications.

In addition students require knowledge of the seven foundation subjects of English Legal System, Constitutional and Administrative Law including retained EU Law, Contract, Tort, Land Law, Equity and Trusts and Crime, which they can evidence through the successful completion of these modules on an LLB or equivalent; or a law conversion course or equivalent.

If you are missing only one, two or three of these modules, we offer study of individual modules without having to complete the entire SQE Law Essentials course. Note: If you're looking to book more than 3 standalone modules, we recommend the full SQE Law Essentials course.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

  • An English Language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component. Please see 'Alternative English language qualifications' section below for alternatives to IELTS.

UK Entry Requirements

Students must possess a 2:1 or above from a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) or a 2:1 in any undergraduate degree along with a law conversion course. Applicants with a 2:2 from a non-law degree will be required to achieve a commendation or distinction from their GDL/MA Law or PgDL/MA Law (Conversion)/MA Law (SQE1) studies. Some students with a 2:2 but other qualities such as additional higher education qualifications, relevant work experience, etc. may also be considered.

Students must comply with the requirements for commencing a Bar Practice Course (BPC) set out by the Bar Standards Board (BSB).

Applicants meeting the eligibility criteria will be required to attend and successfully pass an online Selection Interview.

UK Entry Requirements

Students should possess a UK undergraduate degree in any subject at 2:2 or above, or an equivalent qualification.

A compulsory two week induction is required for all students, unless they can evidence the successful completion of either:

  • an LLB or equivalent; or
  • a minimum of 3 legal modules, worth at least 80 QCFcredits that must include;
    • English Legal System
    • Contract Law
    • Law of Tort

There are no entry requirements for this course, however, there are eligibility requirements to sit the US Bar Exams. Please ensure you are eligible to sit the exam before booking the course.

Business

UK Entry Requirements

Students should possess a UK bachelor’s degree in any subject at 2:2 or above, or equivalent qualifications.

Additional note for MSc Global Accounting

  • Your degree must be in a numerate field (e.g. Accounting or Finance, or Business with Accounting or Finance, etc.)
  • Students who have completed F1-F9 of ACCA are also eligible.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

  • An English language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Please see 'Alternative English language qualifications' section below for alternatives to IELTS.

Non-standard applications are considered. Our two non-standard entry routes are detailed below. All applications for non-standard entry must be accompanied by a full CV and two professional references.

ROUTE A:

  • You possess an undergraduate degree with a grade below that of a 2:2 (3rd or Ordinary);

AND EITHER

  • A professional qualification at level 6 or above from a business professional body, e.g. CIM, CMI, CFA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPD, etc.

OR

  • At least two years of proven professional work experience with two professional references;

ROUTE B:

Please note this route is only available for applicants who do not require a UK Student Route Visa to study with the University. Additionally, please note that the English Language waiver route is only available for applicants who do not require a UK Student Route Visa to study with the University.

You possess no formal qualifications. You will need to provide 5 years of proven professional managerial work experience along with two professional references. You will also be required to attend a formal interview.

Criminology

Education

These entry requirements apply to MA Education, Postgraduate Certificate Higher Education, and Postgraduate Diploma Higher Education.

UK entry requirements

Learners are required to possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent, in any discipline. Learners should possess a minimum of 6 months of professional experience in developing other people, evidenced through teaching, curriculum delivery, training and development, or coaching.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

  • An English language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component. Please see 'Alternative English Language Qualifications' section below for alternatives to IELTS.

UK entry requirements

Learners are required to possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent, in any discipline. Learners should possess a minimum of 6 months of undertaking administrative duties, or managing a service, or leading a project or group of individuals in their daily Higher Education activities.

A route is also available for learners without an undergraduate degree. This route requires two years of work experience in roles illustrating self-management, communication, team-working, critical thinking, decision-making and application of IT alongside the 6 months professional experience in a Higher Education setting as per the standard entry requirements.

Psychology

UK entry requirements

  • Students should possess a UK bachelor’s degree in any subject at 2:2 or above, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Undergraduate Psychology degrees accredited by the BPS cannot be accepted for this programme.

Computer Science

UK entry requirements

Students should possess a UK bachelor’s degree in any subject at 2:2 or above, or equivalent qualifications.

Applicants who have studied Computing or Computing related programmes previously are encouraged to ensure that they closely review the modules of this programme to ensure that they are happy with the progression that this would provide from their studies at undergraduate level.

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English
